Property, Health & Safety Group Report to 2017 AGM

Property, Health & Safety Group

In April 2016 a new Health & Safety Act came into force and as a result the Property Group and Health & Safety Committee merged to become the Property, Health & Safety Group.

We said a sad farewell to Jim Mepsted, who had served on the Property Group for many years; Brian Hartley stood down as Chair, but remains part of the group, and Marc Nicholson also resigned. Don Rushworth and Vicki Watson have taken on the role of joint Chair.

A large focus of the year has been the implementation of many parts of the new Act which affect both the Church and Hall. This is an on-going process and will take time to be fully implemented.

Both the Hall and Church passed through the November earthquake well, though some small repairs are still to be made in the Church.

Through the year:

  • Church Services and Private hirers have taken part in emergency evacuation drills;
  • Security lights have been repaired and replaced;
  • New lights have been put in the hall;
  • Hall heaters have been repaired;
  • Light bulbs have been replaced;
  • New plants have been put in and the grounds maintained;
  • A Working Bee was held in November to keep things tidy;
  • Maintenance jobs have taken place;
  • Monthly safety checks are done;
  • Outside of Church was pressure washed;
  • The Church and Hall remain well kept.

On-going projects:

  • Consultation users of the Villas Trust Lounge and with design consultant in preparation of working final drawings for the lounge refurbishment;
  • Improvements and repairs to the existing security systems: alarm system and external church lighting.

We would welcome new members, we meet on the last Monday of the month, at 7.30pm in the Church.
