Readings and Prayers – 11 August 2013

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am you God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my saving right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Almighty and everlasting God,
by your Spirit the whole body of the church
is governed and sanctified;
hear the prayers we offer
for all your faithful people,
that in the ministry to which you have called us
we may serve you in holiness and truth;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Sunday and Thursday Morning Bible Readings:

“Journeying Together”

Exodus 14:5-18
Psalm 84 (p. 294)
Acts 2:42-47
Matt 16:21-28

For a period of four weeks we will depart from the lectionary readings as Ben leads us through a series of topics on being church and disciples. This week he continues with journeying together.

Today we pray for:

  • List Member of Parliament Katrina Shanks
  • teachers and students at Newlands College and Johnsonville School
  • Children and Families Parish Lay Team Leaders in the Diocese, including our own David Earle
  • The diocese of Rayalaseema (South India) and its bishop, The Rt Revd Dr Kommaddi Birru Yesuvaraprasad
  • Those supporting Anglican Missions, particularly donors, Mission Motivators including our own Claire Hunter, and stamp volunteers, led in part by our own Nigel Werry
  • the shaping and launch of a new Sunday morning children’s ministry on 1 September
  • those who have asked for our prayers and those who have died.
