Readings and prayers 24 March 2013

Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blesses is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!
Matthew 21:9

Jesus, when you rode into Jerusalem
the people waved palms with shouts of acclamation.
Grant that when the shouting dies
we may still walk beside you even to a cross. Amen

Psalm 118:1–2, 19–29

Family Learning Activity:

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and everyone shouted welcome to him.  In the activity this week, we think about what it feels like to take part in a parade and ask what is odd about this scene.  (activity to come)

Today we pray for:

  • the Anglican Church of Tanzania and its relationship with the Church of New Zealand
  • the companion diocese relationship between the Diocese of Wellington and the Diocese of Kagera
  • children and staff at Johnsonville School and St Brigid’s School.
  • children, parents and caregivers who attend mainly music and the mainly music team.
  • our MP, Peter Dunne.
  • those who have asked for our prayers and those who have died.
  • ourselves: that this Lent may be a time of growth and change as we draw closer to Christ. “May our reverence for old wood and our eagerness for new seasons, enrich this present time of growth and find their rightful place in the greenness of now.”
