Readings and prayers 3 March 2013

Be merciful to me O Lord,
for I call to you all the day long;
for you Lord are good and forgiving,
and of great mercy to all who call upon you.
Psalm 86:3,5

God of grace and goodness,
you know that by reason of our frailty we cannot but fail;
keep us always under your protection
and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Sunday and Thursday Bible Readings:

Isaiah 55:1–9
Psalm 63:1–8
1 Corinthians 10:1–13
Luke 13:1–9

Evensong Bible Readings:

Genesis 28:10–19a
John 1:35–51

Family Learning Activity:

In today’s gospel Jesus tells a story about a tree that wasn’t bearing fruit. The owner wanted to rip it out, but the gardener asked for it to be given another chance. This reminds us that God is always willing to give us another chance.

Today we pray for:

  • the parish of Lyall Bay and its Priest-in-Charge, Larry Ashmore
  • clean water for the people of Polynesia
  • children and staff at Raroa Normal Intermediate and Johnsonville School
  • the List MPs who base themselves in Johnsonville, Katrina Shanks and Charles Chauvel, as he takes up a new job with the United Nations as an advisor on Parliamentary Development and Democratic Governance.
  • those who have asked for our prayers and those who have died
  • ourselves: that this Lent may be a time of growth and change as we draw closer to Christ. “May our reverence for old wood and our eagerness for new seasons, enrich this present time of growth and find their rightful place in the greenness of now.”
