St Johns, Johnsonville and Holy Trinity, Ohariu
We light this candle signifying joy:
our common need, our common wealth.
Joy is our protest against despair;
Joy is God’s gift.
Come Christ, Joy of our hearts
Enter our lives so that all people
may have a place to stand.
Let there be room – room for the friend and stranger
room without hurt or anger, room for whoever come.

There was a man sent from God,
whose name was John. He came
to bear witness to the light.
God our strength and our hope,
grant us the courage of John the Baptist,
constantly to speak the truth,
boldly to rebuke vice and patiently to suffer for the truth’s sake;
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
